Punjab Harappa Wins PFF National U17 Championship In Penalty Thriller
ISLAMABAD: Punjab Harappa were crowned champions of the PFF National U-17 Football Championship 2026 after defeating KPK Himalayas on penalties following a fiercely contested final that ended 1-1 after regulation time at Jinnah Stadium on Saturday.
In a final that swung between both sides, Punjab Harappa held their nerve in the penalty shootout to secure the title, bringing the ten-day national championship to a dramatic conclusion.
KPK Himalayas had the opportunity to take control during extra time but missed a penalty in the first half, leaving the contest finely balanced before the decisive shootout.
The final began at a high tempo, with both teams looking to impose themselves. KPK Himalayas relied on their physical presence to trouble the Punjab defence, while Punjab Harappa sought to create openings through long balls and diagonal passes.
KPK Himalayas broke the deadlock in the 26th minute when Harris Khan controlled the ball inside the penalty area before unleashing a fierce left-footed strike into the corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.
Punjab Harappa responded seven minutes later. Hasnain Ali’s initial effort was blocked by the goalkeeper and then a defender, but the ball rebounded into his path, allowing him to poke it into the net in the 33rd minute and restore parity.
With both sides continuing to push forward, the match remained an end-to-end contest. Neither could find a breakthrough in the remainder of regulation time, sending the final into extra time.
KPK Himalayas were handed a golden opportunity to regain the lead when they won a penalty in the first half of extra time, but the effort was missed. The reprieve kept Punjab Harappa in the contest, and neither team managed to find a decisive goal before the final went to penalties.
Punjab Harappa ultimately prevailed in the shootout. After the opening penalty was saved, they recovered to convert their subsequent attempts, with their final kick struck emphatically just under the crossbar to seal the championship.
Earlier in the day, Sindh Indus claimed third place with a commanding 6-1 victory over Balochistan Hingol.
Moosa opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the seventh minute before Ahmed Ali extended Sindh Indus’ advantage in the 19th and 28th minutes. Abu Hurera pulled one back for Balochistan Hingol in the 43rd minute, but Sindh Indus maintained control after the break.
Hanzala added a fourth in the 67th minute, followed by Yaseen’s goal in the 75th, before Ahmed Ali completed his hat-trick in the 85th minute to round off a convincing performance.
The PFF National U-17 Football Championship 2026 brought together ten teams in a structured, merit-based competition designed to strengthen the youth football pathway in Pakistan. The tournament provided a competitive platform for young players to demonstrate their abilities as the Pakistan Football Federation continues its preparations for the AFC U-17 Asian Cup 2027 Qualifiers.
With Punjab Harappa lifting the trophy after a dramatic final, the championship concluded with a fitting showcase of the competition, resilience and emerging talent at the heart of Pakistan’s youth football development.
