Farhan Overtakes Abhishek — Most Runs in 3-Match T20I Series

Sahibzada Farhan Breaks Abhishek Sharma’s All-Time T20I Record

Sahibzada Farhan has made his mark in T20I cricket by setting a new record for the highest run tally in a three-match series between two full-member teams. The Pakistan skipper went past India’s Abhishek Sharma after an impressive run of performances against Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

Farhan took charge as Pakistan’s full-time T20I captain before the Sri Lanka series and enjoyed a successful start to his leadership at home. He showed great consistency with the bat, scoring three half-centuries in as many matches.

The right-handed opener ended the series with 238 runs, averaging 79.33 and striking at 165.27. Due to this remarkable performance, he also earned the Player of the Series award, which further solidified his profile as the team’s skipper.

Farhan’s total took him past Abhishek’s previous record for the most runs in a three-match T20I series involving two full-member ICC teams. The Indian batter had set the previous record during a series against Afghanistan, scoring 229 runs across three games at an average of 76.33, including a century and a half-century.

Pakistan’s Sahibzada Farhan began the Sri Lanka series with a brilliant knock of 89 from 53 balls. He struck 10 fours and four sixes as Pakistan chased the target of 183 with four wickets remaining.

The skipper followed it up with another impressive innings in the second T20I, making 73 runs off 44 deliveries. His contribution helped Pakistan reach 215/3, putting Sri Lanka under pressure in the chase. The visitors failed to keep up with the required run rate and finished on 133/7, giving Pakistan an unassailable lead in the series.

In the third and final T20I, Farhan once again delivered with the bat, scoring 76 off 47 balls to help Pakistan post a challenging total. However, his efforts were not enough to secure a win this time, as Sri Lanka chased down the target to avoid a series whitewash. Kusal Mendis remained their star performer, as his unbeaten knock of 87 helped the visitors seal the chase in the second innings.
