Injury-hit Abdur Rehman makes strong comeback, claims two trophies at SICAS Junior Tennis
By Nawaz Gohar ; SICAS student Abdur Rehman Bin Muhammad Sohail Rana made an impressive return to competitive tennis after an eight-month layoff due to a knee injury, securing two trophies at the SICAS Punjab Junior Tennis Championship.
A former Pakistan No. 1 in the U-10, U-12 and U-14 categories, Abdur reached three finals, U-16 singles, U-18 singles and U-18 doubles, following intensive training under former tennis player Haseeb Aslam.
In the U-18 singles semifinal, Abdur produced a spirited performance to defeat Umer 7-6 (7-2), recovering from a 6-5 deficit to force a tie-break and seal victory. He also partnered with Umer to reach the U-18 doubles final after overcoming Muaz and Aayan.
Abdur qualified for the U-16 singles final with a 6-3 victory over Muaz. However, the final could not be played because of time constraints after he had contested five matches on the final day. He shared the U-16 title with M Aayan, who had defeated Umer Ali in the semifinal. Abdur also shared the U-18 doubles trophy with his partner.
Abdur thanked SICAS School Systems Head Shahryar Salamat for supporting young athletes through scholarships and helping them balance education with sport.
They also acknowledged Haseeb Aslam for his coaching, PLTA official Rashid Malik for promoting competitive tennis, and SICAS JT Principal Miss Nuzhat for her academic support.
Abdur expressed gratitude to Allah Almighty and his grandparents and parents for their prayers and encouragement, describing his return as a testament to perseverance, dedication and determination.
