In a Super 8 stage match of the ICC T20 World Cup, the West Indies displayed a magnificent batting performance, setting a massive target of 255 runs against Zimbabwe.
The match, held at the Wankhede Stadium, began with Zimbabwe winning the toss and electing to field first—a decision that proved to be costly.
The West Indian batters launched an aggressive onslaught without fear of losing wickets, raining fours and sixes to finish their allotted 20 over at 254 for the loss of 6 wickets. The team’s innings featured a staggering total of 19 sixes and 16 fours.
This total now stands as the second-highest score ever recorded in T20 World Cup history. The record for the highest total is held by Sri Lanka, who scored 260 against Kenya during the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007.
Leading the charge for the West Indies, Shimron Hetmyer scored a brilliant 85, while Rovman Powell contributed 59 and Sherfane Rutherford added a crucial 31 runs.
Hetmyer reached his half-century in just 19 deliveries, eventually amassing 85 runs off 34 balls with the help of 7 sixes and 7 fours. Rovman Powell also completed his half-century off 29 balls.
