*Iran announce B Boycott of FIFA World Cup*
By Nawaz Gohar ; In a statement that has sent shockwaves through the sporting world, Iran has officially announced its withdrawal from the upcoming FIFA World Cup. The decision comes amidst heightened geopolitical tensions and direct allegations against the United States.
Speaking on Iranian state television, Sports Minister Ahmad Donya-Mali declared that participation in any major sporting event hosted by the U.S. is no longer feasible. He specifically cited the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, by American forces as the primary reason, stating that under such circumstances, it is “absolutely impossible” for Iran to take part.
The upcoming World Cup is scheduled to be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Crucially, all of Iran’s group-stage matches were slated to be held in American cities, including Los Angeles and Seattle. For the Iranian government, sending a national delegation to compete on U.S. soil has become an insurmountable diplomatic and security challenge.
Minister Donya-Mali further emphasized that the nation is currently grappling with a “wartime situation.” He expressed grave concerns regarding the safety of the public, particularly children, noting that the current domestic and regional climate is not conducive to international sporting engagement.
“Given the current threats to our national security and the ongoing conflict, the conditions for participating in such activities simply do not exist,” the Minister added.
