LA 2028: Massive surge in demand as cricket ticket sales begin for Olympics

By Nawaz Gohar ;  Unprecedented excitement is gripping cricket fans ahead of the sport’s inclusion in the 2028 Summer Olympics. As the initial phase of ticket sales launched, global demand surged immediately.

According to organizers, the pricing structure for cricket matches is tiered to accommodate both casual fans and premium spectators. Tickets for the group stages start at $28, while tickets for the Gold Medal match range from $74 to over $500, reflecting the prestige of the final. California residents were granted a priority pre-sale window from April 2 to April 6, allowing locals to secure seats before the global rush.

Olympic officials reported that approximately 5 million people registered for the initial ticket ballot, with a total of 14 million tickets available across all sports. Selected applicants are being given 48-hour windows to complete their purchases to manage the high volume of traffic.

The cricket competition will feature a T20 format, debuting at the Olympics with a unique structure. Both men’s and women’s events will consist of two groups of three teams each. In the group stage, teams will face each other twice, totaling 12 matches.

Notably, there will be no semi-finals; group winners will advance directly to the Gold Medal match, while runners-up will compete for the Bronze Medal. The host nation, USA, qualifies automatically, while other teams must earn their spots through continental qualifying rounds.
