The singer released a teaser filmed at Brazil’s historic Maracanã Stadium, featuring dancers adorned in the vibrant colors and jerseys of various competing nations. The video pays tribute to Shakira’s long-standing legacy with the tournament by showcasing official match balls from previous World Cup editions.
The teaser has already garnered hundreds of millions of views across Instagram and other social platforms, reviving nostalgic memories for football fans.
Shakira’s association with FIFA is legendary. Her 2010 hit “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” remains the most iconic World Cup song in history. Having also performed for the 2006 and 2014 editions, fans on social media have hailed her return as “iconic,” with some lightheartedly suggesting that she should be the permanent voice of every FIFA World Cup.
The FIFA World Cup 2026, jointly hosted by the USA, Mexico, and Canada, will run from June 11 to July 19. To elevate the experience, FIFA is introducing a Super Bowl-style halftime show for the first time, with musical direction by Coldplay’s Chris Martin.
