Usama Mir shatters Sohail Tanvir’s 18-year record with historic 6-wicket haul
By Nawaz Gohar ; Pakistani leg-spinner Usama Mir has set a new record for Pakistan in T20 cricket with a sensational bowling display during the National T20 Cup 2026.
In a match held at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, Mir claimed 6 wickets for just 8 runs against Lahore Blues, leading his team, Sialkot, to a dominant 110-run victory. This performance now stands as the best-ever bowling figures by a Pakistani player in T20 cricket history.
He surpassed the long-standing record of former fast bowler Sohail Tanvir, who took 6 for 14 against Chennai Super Kings while representing Rajasthan Royals in the inaugural edition of the IPL in 2008. This feat also places Usama Mir in an elite group of Pakistani bowlers to have taken six wickets in a T20 innings, alongside Muhammad Imran, Mohammad Amir, and Faheem Ashraf.
Batting first, Sialkot set a massive target of 211 runs for Lahore Blues. The chase proved too much for the opposition as Usama Mir’s brilliant spell tore through the batting lineup, bowling them out for just 100 runs in 14.2 overs. Unsurprisingly, he was named Player of the Match.
Usama Mir made his international debut for Pakistan in an ODI against New Zealand in January 2023, where his first international wicket was Kane Williamson. Since then, he has played 12 ODIs, including four matches in the 2023 Cricket World Cup, where he made history as the tournament’s first-ever concussion substitute.
He later made his T20 International debut against New Zealand in January 2024 and has appeared in five matches to date. While he has shown flashes of brilliance—including a career-best ODI haul of 4 for 43—he has not represented Pakistan since April 2024.
In July 2025, Mir signed a contract with Worcestershire, aiming to qualify as a local player in the UK by 2027. This move has currently put his career with the Pakistan national team on a long-term hiatus.
