5th Peshawar Open Table Tennis Tournament Begins at Hayatabad Sports Complex
PESHAWAR: The 5th Peshawar Open Table Tennis Tournament officially got underway at the Hayatabad Sports Complex on Monday in a colorful opening ceremony held with the support of Ghani Glass and the Hayatabad Sports Complex administration.
The tournament was formally inaugurated by the Administrator of Hayatabad Sports Complex, Abid Afridi, who cut the ceremonial ribbon to declare the three-day event open.
The opening ceremony was attended by Kifayat Ullah, Senior Vice President of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Table Tennis Association, tournament organizer and Hayatabad Table Tennis Academy coach Muhammad Ibrahim, along with a large number of players, officials, and sports enthusiasts.
Nearly 80 players, including 16 female athletes, are competing in the tournament, representing different districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The event aims to promote table tennis at the grassroots level, provide competitive opportunities for emerging talent, and encourage greater participation in the sport.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, chief guest Abid Afridi said that the promotion of sports remains his top priority.
He noted that the Hayatabad Sports Complex has been transformed into a vibrant sporting hub by providing quality facilities and a healthy environment for athletes and members alike. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to supporting sporting activities and nurturing young talent across the province.
Speaking to the media, tournament organizer Muhammad Ibrahim said that comprehensive arrangements had been made to ensure a professional and athlete-friendly environment throughout the competition.
He thanked Ghani Glass and the Hayatabad Sports Complex administration for their valuable support and expressed confidence that the tournament would help identify and develop promising table tennis players for future national competitions.
The three-day championship will continue with matches in various categories, featuring some of the province’s most talented male and female table tennis players.
