Abubakar takes on Amir in U-18 final at Aitchison Junior Tennis Championship
LAHORE: Abubakar Talha and Aitchison College’s Amir Mazari stormed into the boys’ U-18 singles final of the Aitchison College Junior National Tennis Championship 2026, winning their respective semifinals in straight sets at Aitchison College, Mall Road, on Friday.
Abubakar delivered a commanding performance to defeat Hamza Ali Rizwan 6-1, 6-0, while Amir overcame Omer Jawad 6-2, 6-4 to set up the title clash. In the girls’ U-18 quarterfinal, Fajar Fayyaz recorded a comprehensive 6-0, 6-0 victory over Maham Khawaja.
The boys’ U-14 singles semifinals saw Muhammad Aayan of Fatima Group defeat Muhammad Muaz 5-3, 5-3, while Peshawar’s Shayan Afridi overcame Muhammad Faizan 4-2, 4-2. In the girls’ U-14 semifinal, Eman Shahbaz of Fatima Group beat Shahnoor Umer 4-0, 4-2.
The boys’ U-12 singles finalists were also decided, with Muhammad Aayan defeating Ashtar Alam Khan 4-1, 4-0, and Mustafa Uzair Rana overcoming M. Faizan 4-0, 4-1. In the girls’ U-12 category, Eman Shahbaz defeated Shahreen Umer 4-2, 4-1, while Shahnoor Umer secured a 4-0, 4-0 victory over Anaya Farhan.
The boys’ doubles events also produced exciting semifinal action. In the U-18 category, Amir Mazari and Nabeel Qayum defeated Aalay Husnain and Haroon Arif 6-2, 6-2. In the U-14 doubles semifinals, M. Muaz and Aaliyan Ali beat Ali Yousaf and Ameen Abdullah 4-2, 4-2, while Shayan Afridi and M. Faizan defeated Ibraheem Hussain Gill and Mir Abbas Bhagat 4-0, 4-1. In the boys’ U-12 doubles semifinal, M. Aayan and Ibrahim Leghari overcame Timujin Ali Mirza and Ali Bukhari 4-2, 4-2.
All finals of the championship will be played on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Dr S. M. Turab Hussain, Principal of Aitchison College Lahore, will attend the closing ceremony as chief guest and distribute prizes among the winners.
