HERMOSILLO, Sonora (MEX) — The best 15-year-old baseball players on the planet are ready to excite audiences as they battle for their countries and for baseball’s official world championship in the age category.
The city of Hermosillo hosted the V WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup pre-tournament press conference on Thursday, 25 August, on the eve of the tournament’s Opening Day. During the press conference, the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup Trophy was revealed.
Before the pre-tournament press conference, the managers of the 13 participating teams talked with the WBSC about their goals for the event, and all of them have something in common. They have ‘high expectations’ for the tournament.
The WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup will open with a three-group Opening Round from 26-30 August:
- Group A: Cuba, Czech Republic, Mexico and Chinese Taipei
- Group B: Colombia, Japan, France and Panama
- Group C: Guam, Puerto Rico, South Africa, USA, and Venezuela
Opening Day is set for 26 August, with the Opening Ceremony scheduled at 7:30 pm local time at Sonora Stadium. Two games will officially open the U-15 World Cup at 10:30 a.m. local time, when South Africa squares off against USA and Puerto Rico takes on Venezuela.
Game 3 will start at 7:30pm, when Colombia and Panama takes the field at Hector Espino Stadium for a key game in Group B. After the Opening Ceremony, host Mexico will play Cuba to close Day 1 action.
The tournament will be broadcast in five of the 13 participating nations, potentially reaching millions of viewers for the youth world championship. Audiences worldwide can also follow the U-15 Baseball World Cup through WBSC’s exclusive online GameTime video platform.
After the technical meeting on Thursday, the teams confirmed their official rosters for the tournament.
