Sports Link extend congratulations to newly-elected RIJSA officials
By Nawaz Gohar ; The Election Committee of the Rawalpindi Islamabad Sports Journalists Association (RISJA) has officially announced the new leadership for the 2026-27 term, with all candidates elected unopposed.
The electoral process was conducted under the supervision of Election Committee Chairman Shahryar Khan, alongside committee members Rana Farhan Aslam, Shakir Abbasi, and Asim Jillani. Following due oversight of the process, the committee formally declared the results.
Abubakar Bin Talat has been re-elected as President for a second consecutive term, while Zulfiqar Baig was elected Senior Vice President. Zahid Awan and Asghar Ali Mubarak secured the seats for Vice Presidents.
Meanwhile, Ambreen Ali was elected General Secretary, Zeeshan Qayyum as Senior Joint Secretary, and Awais Latif alongside Aqeel Anjum as Joint Secretaries. Nasir Abbas Naqvi was elected Finance Secretary.
For the Governing Body, Faheem Anwar Khan, Gabriel D’Souza, Awais Abbasi, Kiran Khan, and Asim Riaz were also elected unopposed.
Speaking on the occasion, the newly elected President, Abubakar Bin Talat, and General Secretary, Ambreen Ali, expressed their gratitude to the RISJA members for reposing trust in them. They vowed that the incoming leadership would further strengthen the association’s professional traditions, unity, transparency, and dignity.
They added that efforts would continue to make RISJA a vibrant and effective body aimed at promoting sports journalism in the country, upholding professional ethics, and fostering mutual cooperation among journalists.
Meanwhile, senior journalists and media representatives—including Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) President Afzal Butt, National Press Club (NPC) President Abdul Razaq Sial, Secretary Furqan Rao, Finance Secretary Abid Abbasi, former NPC President Tariq Chaudhry, and Parliamentary Reporters Association (PRA) Secretary Naveed Akbar—congratulated the newly elected office-bearers.
They expressed optimism that the new leadership would make RISJA more robust and effective, diligently fulfilling their responsibilities to protect the rights of sports journalists and promote core journalistic values.
