The Untouchables: 5 Legendary bowlers who never conceded a six in Test cricket

By Nawaz Gohar ;  For the modern cricket fan, accustomed to the rain of sixes in T20 leagues, it may seem unbelievable, but the annals of Test history contain five extraordinary bowlers who delivered over 5,000 balls each without a single batsman ever managing to clear the boundary against them.

While Test cricket remains the ultimate test of a bowler’s accuracy and temperament, the discipline shown by these legends is nothing short of a miracle. What makes this “exclusive club” even more special for local fans is the inclusion of two Pakistani icons.

1. Keith Miller (Australia)
Widely regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders in history, Miller played 55 Tests between 1946 and 1956. He took 170 wickets and scored nearly 3,000 runs. Despite bowling a staggering 10,461 balls in his career, his defense remained impenetrable; no batsman ever hit him for a six.

2. Neil Hawke (Australia)
A medium-fast bowler who played 27 Tests from 1963 to 1968, Hawke was known for his dangerous spells, including a career-best 7/105. Over the course of 6,974 deliveries, his length and line were so precise that he finished his career with a clean sheet regarding sixes.

3. Mudassar Nazar (Pakistan)
Known as the “Man with the Golden Arm,” the Pakistani opening batsman was also a highly effective medium-pacer. Between 1976 and 1989, he featured in 76 Tests. While he was famous for his slow, steady batting, his bowling was equally disciplined. He delivered 5,967 balls in Test cricket without conceding a single maximum.

4. Mahmood Hussain (Pakistan)
Another Pakistani stalwart on this list, Mahmood Hussain played 27 Tests between 1952 and 1962. A vital part of Pakistan’s early bowling attack, he took 68 wickets and bowled 5,910 deliveries. Much like Mudassar Nazar, he kept the batsmen so tightly shackled that the boundary ropes remained untouched by his bowling.

5. Derek Pringle (England)
The Kenya-born English all-rounder stood tall at the crease from 1982 to 1993. Known for his height and consistency, Pringle took 70 Test wickets. Across 5,287 balls, he maintained such a rigorous line and length that not a single batsman in the world could strike him over the ropes.
