Govt awards over PKR 200 million in cash prizes to national athletes for FY 2024-25
By Nawaz Gohar ; The federal government has presented a detailed report to Parliament regarding the cash awards distributed to Pakistani athletes during the fiscal year 2024-25.
According to official documents, a total of PKR 206.45 million was awarded to national players in recognition of their outstanding performances across various international sporting disciplines.
The lion’s share of the prize pool was awarded to star athlete Arshad Nadeem, who received PKR 152 million, while his coach, Salman Iqbal Butt, was honored with a cash prize of PKR 10.6 million. In the world of cue sports, World Snooker Champion Mohammad Asif received PKR 2.5 million for his global title.
Other notable recipients include: Snooker: Ahsan Ramzan was awarded PKR 500,000 for his bronze medal in the Asian U21 Championship. For the SAARC Snooker Championship, Mohammad Asif received an additional PKR 500,000 (Gold) and Mohammad Naseem Akhtar received PKR 100,000 (Bronze).
Squash: Athletes were awarded PKR 7.5 million for success in the World U23 Individual Squash Championship and PKR 1.75 million for the Asian Junior Squash Championship.
Combat Sports: National Taekwondo players who secured medals in the Asian Open World Taekwondo Championship were collectively awarded PKR 11.5 million.
Special Olympics & Others: Medalists from the Special Olympics World Winter Games received PKR 3.05 million, while table tennis players were awarded PKR 1.45 million for their success in the South Asian Regional Championship.
