Paul Stirling surpasses Rohit Sharma to become most capped T20I player

By Nawaz Gohar ;  Ireland’s captain, Paul Stirling, has achieved a new historic milestone in T20 International cricket, becoming the player with the most appearances in the shortest format of the game.

Stirling reached this landmark during a match against the United Arab Emirates (UAE), marking the 160th T20 International match of his career.

With this achievement, the 35-year-old Paul Stirling has surpassed former Indian captain Rohit Sharma, who previously held the record with 159 T20Is. Following Rohit Sharma’s retirement from the format in 2024, the path was cleared for Stirling to claim this record.

Paul Stirling began his T20 International career in 2009 against Pakistan. Over time, he has not only become a pillar of Irish cricket but is also recognized globally as one of the most experienced players in the format. His consistency and fitness have allowed him to maintain a prominent position in international cricket for a long period.

Looking at the statistics, Paul Stirling currently sits at fourth place in the list of all-time leading run-scorers in T20 International cricket. He has amassed 3,874 runs so far, including a brilliant century and 24 half-centuries, which serve as clear evidence of his aggressive batting and match-winning capabilities.

This milestone is not only a moment of pride for Ireland cricket but is also considered a significant addition to the history of T20 Internationals, further solidifying his long-standing commitment, performance, and stature in world cricket.
