PCB chairman to seek govt clearance for fans’ return ahead of PSL 11 playoffs
By Nawaz Gohar ; In a move that has sparked excitement among cricket enthusiasts, the Chairman of the Pakistan Board (PCB) has announced plans to formally request the Prime Minister to allow spectators to attend the upcoming playoff and final matches of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11.
The current season has been played behind closed doors in Karachi and Lahore due to government-imposed mobility restrictions amid a nationwide fuel crisis. However, with the tournament reaching its business end, the board is pivoting toward a strategy that brings the fans back to the stands.
Addressing the media, the Chairman provided a candid assessment of the regional situation, drawing a sharp contrast between the domestic landscape and that of neighboring India.
“We are making decisions based on the ground reality of our country. Our situation is not comparable to the conditions in India,” the Chairman stated. He further noted reports of acute fuel shortages and long queues at petrol pumps across the border, asserting that Pakistan is not facing a similar crisis. “In difficult times, certain strategic decisions must be made for the greater good of the country and the sport,” he added.
The possibility of opening stadium gates for the high-stakes playoffs and the grand finale is currently under active discussion. According to the Chairman, league officials are in continuous consultation with relevant authorities to finalize a framework that balances public interest with logistical constraints.
While the preliminary round of PSL 11 was restricted to empty stadiums to comply with energy-saving measures and movement protocols, the PCB remains optimistic. Recent reports suggest that a policy shift is on the horizon, potentially allowing the league’s flagship matches to be played in front of a live audience, restoring the vibrant atmosphere synonymous with Pakistan’s premier T20 tournament.
