CM Maryam Nawaz’s cycling initiative wins praise from Pakistan Cycling Federation

By Nawaz Gohar ; The streets of Punjab recently transformed into a theatre of speed and stamina as the Punjab Sports Board (PSB) concluded a series of high-profile cycling events. Orchestrated under the direct vision of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, the competition has been hailed as a transformative milestone for the sport in Pakistan.

The events, which attracted a diverse pool of elite and amateur cyclists, have received a glowing endorsement from the Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF). The Federation lauded the provincial government’s commitment to providing a world-class competitive platform for the nation’s rising talent.

The championship served as a validation of the PCF’s rigorous high-performance training protocols. Affiliated athletes from the Federation dominated the podiums, securing top honors in both the men’s and women’s categories.

Syed Azhar Ali Shah, President of the PCF, expressed his immense satisfaction with the results. “The stellar performance of our athletes reflects the structured training and dedication we have poured into the sport,” Shah remarked. “When a provincial government provides a platform of this caliber, it allows our top-tier talent to truly shine and inspires the next generation of riders.”

In a move to foster a results-oriented sporting culture, the Punjab Sports Board ensured that athletic excellence was met with tangible rewards. The distribution of substantial cash prizes became a key highlight of the event, significantly boosting athlete morale and setting a new standard for departmental support in domestic sports.

The collaboration between the PSB and the PCF signals a strategic shift in Pakistan’s sporting landscape. By integrating grassroots participation with the Federation’s elite development programs, the initiative aims to build a pipeline of athletes capable of competing at the Asian and International levels.

As the national governing body, the PCF has reaffirmed its commitment to raising the technical standards of cycling across the country. With the success of the Punjab events as a blueprint, the federation eyes a future where Pakistani cyclists are no longer just participants on the global stage—but contenders for the podium.
