PSB sets record straight on Jinnah Stadium athletics track certification
By Nawaz Gohar ; Addressing recent media reports regarding the state of the athletics track at Jinnah Stadium, the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has issued a comprehensive factual clarification, confirming that the facility holds a valid, internationally recognized accreditation.
Official documentation reveals that the track at Jinnah Stadium is formally certified by World Athletics as a Class 2 Athletics Facility (Construction Category III). Issued on August 28, 2026, under Certificate No. S-23-0356-1, the accreditation remains valid through October 2030. The certification affirms that the facility meets all technical requirements specified by the global governing body.
The track underwent a rigorous technical survey conducted by Estonia-based specialists Kanstet Ltd. Additionally, track materials and synthetic components were subjected to independent testing by the Pakistan Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (PCSIR), as documented in their report dated January 19, 2024.
This international certification marks a pivotal technical benchmark for Pakistan’s sports infrastructure as the capital prepares to host the 14th South Asian Games, scheduled for April 3–11, 2027.
While reaffirming its commitment to transparency and welcoming constructive media oversight, the PSB emphasized that reporting on national sports infrastructure should rely on verified official records and international technical evaluations.
The Board reaffirmed its dedication to upholding high facility standards to ensure the successful execution of the upcoming South Asian Games.
