Pakistan launches revolutionary ‘School Hockey Uplift Plan’ to revive national game
By Nawaz Gohar ; The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), in strategic collaboration with the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC), has officially rolled out a groundbreaking grassroots initiative titled the “School Hockey Uplift Plan.”
The multi-phase, year-long emergency project is fully backed by the Government of Pakistan alongside critical corporate sector sponsors, aiming to systematically inject new life into the sport from its foundational roots.
According to an official PHF spokesperson, the immediate focus of the project is infrastructure and resource provision. In its opening phase, 1,000 selected schools across the country will be completely equipped with modern, premium hockey gear free of cost, removing financial barriers for aspiring young athletes.
The ultimate blueprint of the uplift plan extends far beyond equipment distribution. Over the next twelve months, the PHF will organize a network of inter-school tournaments and elite, specialized coaching camps.
Through this rigorous scouting network, thousands of talented young boys and girls will be evaluated, culminates in the selection of a highly competitive “National Under-15 Talent Pool.” These players will form the bedrock of Pakistan’s future international contingents.
Addressing potential concerns regarding fund management, the PHF spokesperson vehemently emphasized that the financial capital provided by the federal government and corporate sponsors will be subject to strict oversight. The federation has committed to absolute transparency to ensure that every rupee directly benefits grassroots development in all corners of the country.
For over two decades, critics have screamed that Pakistan hockey’s decline stems from the death of school sports. This historic, structured alignment between the state, the federation, and corporate Pakistan is the precise antidote the doctor ordered. If executed with the promised transparency, this marks the first real milestone toward putting Pakistan back on the Olympic podium.
