Media distortion won’t overshadow women’s sports success, assures PSB
By Nawaz Gohar ; The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has stepped forward to clear the air regarding a minor post-match friction at the recently concluded HEC Inter-Varsity Women Baseball Championship.
Officials maintain that an isolated verbal spat between two teams has been blown entirely out of proportion, threatening to eclipse a milestone event for women’s sports in the country.
The tournament, which successfully concluded on July 13, 2026, was a collaborative triumph co-hosted by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Pakistan Federation Baseball (PFB). The PSB played a pivotal role as the enabling partner, provisioning world-class playing venues and housing facilities for the visiting collegiate athletes and management.
Trouble reportedly brewed immediately after the final whistle and prize distribution ceremony. Fueled by competitive adrenaline, players from two opposing universities engaged in a heated mutual disagreement. However, seasoned officials from both the HEC and PSB intervened instantly, de-escalating the friction on the spot before it could spiral into a security concern.
“The incident was strictly isolated and wrapped up within minutes,” a senior sports official noted, adding that the event ended on a largely peaceful note, celebrating a safe, highly competitive environment for young women athletes hailing from across Pakistan.
The PSB expressed deep regret over how certain media outlets framed the altercation, arguing that reporting the event without proper context paints an inaccurate, damaging picture of national sports.
“Balanced, fact-based journalism is critical. When isolated incidents are sensationalized, they don’t just misrepresent the truth—they actively discourage the growth and promotion of women’s sports in Pakistan,” the PSB statement emphasized.
Moving forward, the Board re-affirmed its commitment to safeguarding the sporting ecosystem. Working hand-in-hand with the HEC and national federations, the PSB aims to enforce stricter discipline codes while ensuring Pakistan remains a safe, premier launchpad for the next generation of female athletes.
