I don’t hide on the field: Fakhar Zaman reaffirms aggressive intent
By Nawaz Gohar ; Pakistan opening batter Fakhar Zaman has declared himself fully fit and eager to contribute, sharing insights into his aggressive batting philosophy and cricketing inspirations in a recent appearance on the PCB Podcast.
Addressing long-standing discussions regarding his physical condition, Zaman reassured fans and selectors alike. “I feel completely fit now,” he stated. “I have never hidden on the field. Wherever the team management assigns me a fielding position, I fulfill my role with utmost responsibility.”
The dynamic left-hander also opened up about his cricketing idol, revealing a deep admiration for South African legend AB de Villiers. “AB de Villiers has always been my favorite player. Whether it was Test, ODI, or T20 cricket, I thoroughly enjoyed watching him bat. I always harbored a desire to play just like him,” Zaman shared.
Reflecting on the internal competition within the squad, Zaman noted that the influx of young talent serves as a catalyst for his own growth, motivating him to continuously elevate his game.
He also shared a light-hearted anecdote about his on-field chemistry with teammate Babar Azam. “Babar often tells me, ‘Brother, you’ve already hit a six, now take it easy.’ But my approach is simple: if the ball lands in my zone, I will go for the big shot, regardless of whether I have already hit one or two maximums in the over,” Zaman explained.
He concluded by clarifying that his aggressive style is instinctive rather than premeditated. “I never pre-plan to hit five sixes in an over. I simply play each ball on its merit.”
