ICC Confirms World Cup 2027 Schedule to be Announced on October 1 in Cape Town
The ICC will announce the schedule for the 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup in Cape Town on October 1, with Cricket South Africa joining the governing body for the event marking one year until the tournament begins.
The announcement will also launch the ticket registration process. Supporters will be able to enter the ballot from October 1, although tickets will not immediately go on general sale.
The ICC has confirmed the World Cup 2027 Schedule to be announced on October 1 as preparations continue for the first 14-team men’s World Cup since the competition expanded from its 10-team format. The tournament will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
The provisional window for the competition is October 4 to November 21, 2027, with the final expected to be played on November 21. The official fixture list and match venues will be confirmed when the schedule is released.
Qualification Picture Takes Shape
The 10 directly qualified teams will be determined after the September 30 cut-off for the ODI rankings. South Africa and Zimbabwe already have guaranteed places as hosts, while the remaining direct berths will be allocated through the rankings.
India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Australia, England, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Bangladesh are currently in contention for those places. Bangladesh’s position outside the top eight does not currently threaten its qualification because South Africa, ranked third, have already secured their place as hosts.
Namibia’s status is different. Despite being one of the three host nations, it does not have an automatic berth and will need to qualify through the designated pathway.
Four places will therefore remain available after the direct qualification process. Those positions will be decided through the , scheduled from February 22 to March 23, with the successful teams entering the World Cup as Qualifier 1, 2, 3 and 4.
2027 World Cup to Use New Format
The tournament will introduce a three-stage structure before the semi-finals. The three lowest-ranked teams among the 14 qualifiers will first play each other in a Super Series, with only the winner progressing.
The next phase will split 12 teams into two groups of six. The top three from each group, plus the highest-ranked fourth-placed side across both groups, will advance to the Super Seven stage.
The seven teams will then play another round-robin competition, with the top four reaching the semi-finals. The two semi-final winners will meet in the November 21 final.
