Ahmed Zafar Hayat leads Pakistan to double triumph in Singapore seniors golf
LAHORE: Pakistan’s Ahmad Zafar Hayat produced an outstanding performance to win the individual title at the Singapore Seniors Amateur Golf Championship, while he also teamed up with Brig (retd) Omer Ijaz to secure victory in the team event and bring further honour to the country.
The international seniors competition was held from September 22 to 25 at the Seletar Golf Club in Singapore, attracting accomplished senior golfers from 12 countries, including Japan, the United States, Malaysia, Myanmar, Hong Kong, India, Australia, the United Kingdom, Austria, Singapore and Pakistan.
Competing in the 55-59 age category, Ahmad Zafar maintained an impressive level of consistency throughout the championship to finish at the top of the individual standings. His composed approach, accuracy and competitive temperament enabled him to overcome strong challenges from experienced golfers representing different countries.
Ahmad Zafar’s triumph was complemented by an equally impressive team performance with Brig (retd) Omer Ijaz, as the Pakistan pair clinched the team title. Mohammed Abdullah, another member of the Pakistan contingent from Rawalpindi, also displayed competitive form during the event.
The victories provided a significant boost to Pakistan’s standing in international senior amateur golf, with Ahmad Zafar’s performance particularly highlighting the quality and experience of the country’s veteran golfers.
