Teams arrive in Islamabad as Pakistan prepares to host Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania Group III

By Nawaz Gohar ; Excitement is building in the federal capital as international contingents continue to touch down at Islamabad for the Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania Group III, marking a historic chapter in Pakistan’s sports landscape.

Scheduled to take place from October 21 to 24, 2026, at the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) Tennis Complex on Garden Avenue, this prestigious international women’s team championship is being hosted on Pakistani soil for the first time in the nation’s history.

Following the earlier arrival of the Maldivian contingent, the national squad from Iran landed in Islamabad on Saturday to gear up for the regional showpiece.

The four-day tournament will feature high-stakes action between eight competing nations: Host: Pakistan while participating teams include Bahrain, Bhutan, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Maldives and Qatar.

The event promises to deliver top-tier regional competition, bringing together emerging and seasoned women’s tennis talent across Asia and Oceania.

PTF President Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Secretary General Col. Zia-ud-Din Tufail, alongside senior federation management, personally welcomed the incoming foreign delegations.

Speaking on the significance of the event, the PTF leadership emphasized that securing the hosting rights for the Billie Jean King Cup is a major victory for domestic sports diplomacy and grass-roots development.

“Hosting this prestigious championship for the first time in Pakistan is a proud moment for our tennis fraternity,” the PTF leadership stated. “It underlines our steadfast commitment to elevating women’s sports, fostering regional ties, and providing our national players with invaluable home-court advantage against international opposition.”

The Pakistan Tennis Federation has put in place comprehensive security, logistical, and hospitality arrangements to ensure a seamless experience for all visiting athletes, match officials, and international delegates.

As courts at the PTF Tennis Complex get final touches, the successful organization of the Billie Jean King Cup is set to further solidify Pakistan’s growing reputation as a safe, capable, and vibrant destination for major global sporting events.
