FIFA and Board of Peace sign historic agreement for Gaza reconstruction through football

By Nawaz Gohar ; The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has entered into a landmark strategic partnership with the “Board of Peace” to promote reconstruction and recovery in Gaza through targeted investments in sports infrastructure.

The agreement was formalized during the inaugural session of the Board of Peace in Washington. The Board, established under the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, serves as a high-level platform designed to mobilize global leaders and international institutions to provide financial and developmental support for the revitalization of Gaza.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino hailed the partnership as a “historic milestone,” emphasizing that football would serve as a catalyst for development, employment, and social cohesion in the conflict-ridden region.

“This agreement will play a pivotal role in the recovery of conflict-affected areas,” Infantino stated. “Football will be utilized as an effective tool for social improvement, creating jobs and fostering hope among the youth.”

The comprehensive reconstruction plan outlined in the agreement includes several key projects:
Grassroots Development: Construction of 50 small-scale football pitches adjacent to schools and residential areas.

Regional Infrastructure: Development of five major stadiums across different districts.
Elite Training: The establishment of a modern, state-of-the-art FIFA Academy.
National Landmark: Construction of a 20,000-seat National Stadium.

To fund these initiatives, the partnership aims to raise $75 million. Beyond physical construction, the program is designed to launch structured football leagues for both boys and girls, engage the youth in constructive activities, and stimulate the local economy through job creation.

While the announcement has been met with international interest, geopolitical analysts suggest that the success of the project remains contingent on several critical factors. These include the prevailing security situation in Gaza, the fluctuating costs of construction materials, and the logistical complexities of delivering humanitarian and developmental aid to the region.

FIFA has reiterated that this initiative is part of its broader global mission to ensure that football contributes to the betterment of society, particularly in areas most in need of stability and growth.
