LHC rules writ petition maintainable against PCB; restores Shakil Shaikh-led Islamabad Region
LAHORE ; The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday set aside the Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) orders restraining the Islamabad Regional and Zonal Cricket Associations from functioning.
Presiding over the case, the Honorable Justice Malik Javed Iqbal Wains announced the short order after hearing exhaustive arguments in the writ petition (No. 37823/25) filed by veteran cricket administrator Shakil Shaikh against the PCB.
The petitioner was represented by prominent legal expert Mr. Taffazul Rizvi. During the proceedings, Mr. Rizvi argued that the PCB Adjudicator’s order dated May 27, 2025, and the subsequent notification issued by the PCB on May 28, 2025—which effectively barred the elected Islamabad Region and Zonal Cricket Associations from their respective offices—were legally flawed.
A pivotal aspect of the ruling was the Court’s concurrence with Mr. Rizvi’s contention regarding the maintainability of the case. Justice Wains held that a Writ Petition is indeed competent against the PCB, reaffirming the Board’s accountability under the constitutional jurisdiction of the High Court.
By virtue of this judgment, the PCB’s previous notifications stand nullified, thereby restoring the elected regional and zonal cricket associations in Islamabad to their official status with immediate effect. The detailed judgment, providing the full legal reasoning for the decision, is expected to be released shortly.
