Farhan, Maaz and Shamil set for ODI debut in Bangladesh
By Nawaz Gohar ; Pakistan’s ODI captain, Shaheen Shah Afridi, has confirmed that the national side will field three debutants in the opening match of the One-Day International series against Bangladesh.
Addressing a pre-match press conference in Dhaka, the captain announced that Sahibzada Farhan, Maaz Sadaqat, and Shamil Hussain have been drafted into the national ODI squad.
Shaheen expressed high expectations for the trio, citing their stellar performances in the domestic circuit. He specifically highlighted Sahibzada Farhan’s recent form, noting his achievement as the top scorer in the T20 World Cup. “I am hopeful these players will deliver excellence on the big stage,” Shaheen remarked.
Clarifying the team selection, the captain emphasized that no senior players have been “dropped.” Instead, the management is intentionally providing opportunities to youngsters. “These young players are the future of Pakistan cricket. We are currently in the process of building and preparing the team for the next World Cup,” he added.
Shaheen further noted that while Pakistan is traditionally recognized for its formidable pace attack, the goal is for the spinners to play an equally vital role in the series. He mentioned that the final Playing XI would be decided following a final practice session in Dhaka.
Acknowledging the challenge ahead, Shaheen said, “Every team is dangerous in their home conditions. Bangladesh is a strong unit, especially coming off a recent series win against the West Indies. However, Pakistan is also entering this series with momentum, having recently secured ODI series victories against South Africa and Sri Lanka.”
