Pakistan on brink of T20 WC elimination following crushing defeat to India?

By Nawaz Gohar ; Following a stinging defeat against arch-rivals India, serious concerns have emerged regarding Pakistan’s survival in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

While India has officially secured its place in the Super Eight stage with India’s victory, the Green Shirts find themselves in a vulnerable position in Group A.

Due to the 61-run margin of defeat, Pakistan’s Net Run Rate (NRR) has plummeted to -0.403, pushing them down to third place in the group standings. Consequently, Pakistan has slipped below the United States (USA), who currently hold 4 points from four matches with a superior NRR of 0.788.

Pakistan is scheduled to play its final group-stage match against Namibia on Wednesday, February 18. The stakes for this encounter are now at an all-time high:

The Danger: If Namibia pulls off an upset victory, Pakistan will be officially eliminated from the tournament.

The Beneficiary: In the event of a Pakistani loss, the USA will qualify for the Super Eight stage alongside India.

The Safety Net: A victory against Namibia will guarantee Pakistan’s progression to the next round. Additionally, if the match is washed out due to rain and points are shared, Pakistan will still manage to qualify for the Super Eight stage based on the points tally.
