BYD-MMC unveils elite 'She Runs' cohort for Karachi Marathon 2027

BYD-MMC unveils elite 'She Runs' cohort for Karachi Marathon 2027

Karachi : In a landmark stride for female sports development in Pakistan, Mega Motor Company (MMC), the local partner of global electric vehicle giant BYD, has officially locked in its inaugural elite cohort for the ‘She Runs’ initiative, selecting ten standout female athletes following a rigorous, high-endurance trial at Ramada Creek.

The initiative, launched as a flagship pillar of MMC’s second consecutive title sponsorship of the upcoming BYD Karachi Marathon (scheduled for January 3, 2027),

sparked an overwhelming response across the country. Over 500 aspiring long-distance runners applied for the programme, signaling a major shift in the appetite for structured women's athletics in urban Pakistan.
Following an intense screening phase, 50 shortlisted candidates were put through their paces at the seaside selection grounds in Karachi.

The comprehensive evaluation went far beyond standard distance metrics, subjecting participants to a grueling 10-kilometer endurance run, biomechanical screening, mobility drills, medical clearance checks, and one-on-one performance interviews.

The ten selected finalists will now enter a customized 10-week high-performance regime designed to bridge the gap between amateur enthusiasm and competitive marathon endurance.

The training architecture is anchored by two of the country’s leading sports performance experts:

Shah Faisal Khan: Co-Founder of Platinum Fitness and a high-performance strength and conditioning specialist focused on marathon mechanics and injury rehabilitation.
Uzma Abid: Certified UESCA and MatrixFit running coach and accomplished marathoner.

Over the next two and a half months, the cohort will undergo data-driven conditioning covering aerobic capacity build-up, nutrition strategy, pacing mechanics, and active recovery, ensuring peak physical and mental readiness when they line up at the start line in January 2027.

While women’s participation in public fitness events has steadily climbed in recent years, access to elite, sport-specific coaching has historically remained restricted to a handful of professional athletes. MMC’s structural intervention seeks to democratize that access.

"Pakistan has no shortage of women with the ambition and determination to pursue sport, yet access to structured training and support remains a formidable challenge," noted Anum Abdullah, Senior General Manager of HR, Admin & CSR at Mega Motor Company.

"The overwhelming response to ‘She Runs’ underscores the massive untapped potential that exists across the board. Our vision is to build an environment where raw ambition translates directly into measurable athletic achievement, inspiring a broader culture of wellness and long-distance running among women nationwide."

For MMC and BYD, the program reflects an expansion of corporate sustainability—moving from sustainable vehicular transit to human performance and physical mobility.

By integrating dedicated coaching infrastructure into the BYD Karachi Marathon 2027, the brand is establishing a scalable model for corporate sports investment in South Asia—one that prioritizes talent cultivation alongside high-profile event branding.

As the 10 selected runners begin their 70-day journey toward the marathon, ‘She Runs’ stands out not merely as a corporate CSR program, but as a proof of concept for the future of women’s endurance sports in Pakistan.
