World Masters Weightlifting Championship – Historic Event of Pakistan Sports

Weightlifting has always symbolized strength, discipline and endurance. While Olympic weightlifting showcases young elite athletes, Masters Weightlifting offers athletes above 35 the chance to compete internationally and continue their passion. It promotes fitness, healthy lifestyles, and proves that age is no barrier to achievement.
Pakistan has struggled in Olympic weightlifting due to disputes, bans and lack of funding, but the initiative of Pakistan Masters Weightlifting Federation to host the World Masters Weightlifting Championship here is a bold and praiseworthy step. Such an event can project Pakistan as a peaceful, sports-loving nation and bring opportunities for tourism and development.
At the heart of this effort stands Mr. Arshad Khan, President of the Pakistan Masters Weightlifting Federation. A former national weightlifter, he has been a consistent supporter of strength sports.
Through his company AK Group, one of the biggest sponsors of powerlifting and weightlifting in Pakistan, he has created opportunities for athletes where institutional backing was missing. His vision to bring the World Masters Weightlifting Championship to Pakistan deserves special appreciation, as his commitment is paving the way for a brighter sporting future.
Yet challenges remain. There is no financial support even for Olympic weightlifting, and disputes between federations and PSB continue. A non-registered Masters Federation cannot access official resources easily, which makes cooperation and guidance essential. Rather than politics, the focus must remain on Pakistan’s reputation and athlete welfare.
The way forward lies in recognition and guidance from PSB, collaboration between federations, government and corporate sponsorship, and legacy programs that benefit future lifters. If done in the right direction, this event can become a milestone in Pakistan’s sporting history and revive weightlifting with pride.
