Davis Cup: India beat Pakistan in Group One playoff

ISLAMABAD: India defeated Pakistan in both singles and doubles events to win the Davis Cup tie and take a 4-0 lead over Pakistan.
In the Davis Cup tie in Islamabad, India defeated Pakistan’s Aqeel Khan and Muzamil Murtaza 2-6, 6-7 in the doubles match.
Pakistan’s top tennis star and considered doubles specialist Aisam-ul-Haq could not participate in the Davis Cup matches on Sunday due to a hamstring injury, which dealt a further blow to Pakistan’s hopes of winning the match.
India’s Nikki Ponnacha defeated young Muhammad Shoaib 3-6 4-6 after just 64 minutes of competition. India now has an overall lead of 0-8 against Pakistan in Davis Cup matches. Earlier in the singles matches played yesterday,
India’s Ramkumar Ramanathan won the first set 7-6, the second set 6-7 and the third set 0-6 against Pakistan’s Easam-ul-Haq. After Pakistan was defeated by India in the second singles match as well,
Pakistan’s Aqeel Khan was defeated by India’s Sriram Balaji with the score of 5-7 in the first set and 3-6 in the second set. The last encounter between the two countries was in Kazakhstan in 2014, in which India won by a score of 0-4.
It should be remembered that Pakistan is hosting the Indian tennis team in the Davis Cup for the first time in 60 years.
