Mohammad Farooq shatters 59-year-old six-hitting record in President’s Trophy
By Nawaz Gohar ; Markhor IT Solutions batter Mohammad Farooq scripted cricket history by smashing a record-breaking 14 sixes in a single first-class innings during a President’s Trophy Grade-I match against Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) at the Shoaib Akhtar Stadium.
In a display of power hitting, Farooq blitzed 163 runs off just 99 deliveries, a knock decorated with 14 sixes and 11 boundaries. With this performance, Farooq broke the nearly six-decade-old record for the most sixes in a first-class innings by a Pakistani batter.
The previous landmark was held by former Test captain Majid Khan, who struck 13 sixes during an unbeaten 147-run knock for Pakistan against Glamorgan at Swansea in 1967.
Farooq’s 14 maximums also broke the domestic record on Pakistani soil, surpassing Railways’ Gulfraz Khan, who slammed 12 sixes during his 207-run marathon against Pakistan Universities in 1976. By clearing the ropes 14 times, Mohammad Farooq eclipsed both long-standing records to establish a new benchmark in Pakistani first-class cricket history.
