Punjab secures title at National Blind Women’s Cricket Championship
By Nawaz Gohar ; The closing ceremony of the National Blind Women’s Cricket Championship celebrated remarkable talent and sportsmanship, with Australian High Commissioner Timothy Candy attending as the guest of honor alongside Pakistan Blind Cricket Council (PBCC) Chairman Syed Sultan Shah.
Addressing the media during the event, High Commissioner Candy highlighted the shared passion for cricket between the two nations,
noting that both Pakistan and Australia are globally recognized for their deep-rooted love for the sport. He recalled that the Pakistani team had defeated Australia prior to the World Cup, and expressed enthusiasm regarding the Australian team’s upcoming tour of Pakistan.
Praising the exceptional performance of the visually impaired athletes, High Commissioner Candy remarked, “These girls are our true champions.”
He congratulated the Punjab team on their victory in the National Blind Women’s Cricket Championship and reaffirmed the Australian High Commission’s commitment to supporting initiatives that empower women.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Australian High Commissioner, alongside PBCC President Sultan Shah, distributed awards among the players. In the final match of the tournament, Punjab emerged victorious after defeating Azad Kashmir to claim the championship title.
The tournament featured spirited competition between teams representing Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Azad Kashmir.
