Towns Premier League Launched to Promote Grassroots Cricket in Karachi
Karachi: An inaugural ceremony of the Towns Premier League (TPL), a tape-ball cricket league being organized at the town level, was held in Karachi to promote sports activities and grassroots cricket across the city.
Provincial Minister for Local Government and Patron-in-Chief of the Towns Premier League, Nasir Hussain Shah, was the chief guest at the ceremony. A total of 26 teams are participating in the TPL Tape-Ball League, comprising 25 teams representing Karachi’s towns and one team representing the Mayor of Karachi. The official TPL anthem and team jerseys were also unveiled on the occasion.
Addressing the ceremony, Nasir Hussain Shah said that the soft-launching of the TPL marks the beginning of a new chapter for cricket in Karachi. He congratulated the TPL team for bringing together all 25 towns of Karachi through the positive power of sports.
He urged all towns to extend their full cooperation to the TPL organizers, emphasizing that the league aims to promote a sense of inclusion among Karachi’s youth, grassroots cricket, local talent, healthy competition, sportsmanship, and community participation.
The league is intended to provide Karachi’s youth with positive and constructive opportunities while creating a platform for emerging local cricketers to showcase their talent.
Nasir Hussain Shah emphasized that the cricket league is a completely non-political sports initiative, aimed at promoting sports, youth development, unity, and community participation.
He added that the league would provide maximum opportunities for local young cricketers to represent their respective towns and contribute to the development of grassroots cricket in Karachi.
