By Nawaz Gohar ; In a historic milestone for Pakistan’s media fraternity, the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) has formally recognized Pakistan’s contributions to sports journalism by conferring a Lifetime Honorary Membership upon Amjad Aziz Malik, President of the Pakistan Sports Writers Federation (PSWF).
The prestigious honor was announced during the 88th AIPS Congress held in Lausanne, Switzerland, a city renowned as the Olympic Capital.
The event saw the participation of delegates and representatives from 111 countries, marking it as one of the most significant gatherings of sports media professionals globally.
Amjad Aziz Malik’s induction into the AIPS Executive Committee as a Lifetime Honorary Member is a landmark achievement. In the 102-year history of the AIPS, he is the first-ever Pakistani sports journalist to receive this distinction.
While Malik represented South Asia on this global stage, senior sports journalists from five other nations, Japan, Spain, Malta, Brazil, and Turkey, were also honored with lifetime memberships for their long-standing dedication to the craft.
Amjad Aziz Malik is no stranger to high-level accolades. His career, spanning decades, has been characterized by an unwavering commitment to promoting sports and maintaining journalistic integrity.
National Recognition: In recognition of his immense services to sports journalism, the Government of Pakistan previously conferred upon him the Presidential Pride of Performance (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz).
Global Influence: His new role within the AIPS Executive Committee further solidifies his status as a key influencer in international sports media circles.
The news has sparked a wave of celebration within the Pakistani journalism community. Muhammad Asghar Azeem, Secretary General of the Pakistan Sports Writers Federation (PSWF), extended his heartfelt congratulations, describing the achievement as a “moment of immense pride” for the entire country.
In a collective statement, the officials of the PSWF remarked: “Amjad Aziz Malik’s election is a testament to the talent and hard work prevalent in Pakistan’s sports journalism community. This international recognition will play a pivotal role in further highlighting Pakistan’s positive image on the global stage.”
