From Asia Cup heroics to record books: Sameer Minhas matches Babar Azam’s record
By Nawaz Gohar ; Pakistan’s young batting sensation, Sameer Minhas, has equaled a record held by Babar Azam in just seven matches, drawing widespread attention with his extraordinary performance. By scoring three centuries in only seven Youth One Day International (ODI) matches, Minhas has joined the ranks of Pakistan’s premier batsman Babar Azam—a feat considered a remarkable achievement in such a short span.
In the list of Pakistani players with the most centuries in Youth ODIs, Sami Aslam holds the top spot with six centuries in 40 matches. Babar Azam previously held the second position with three centuries in 36 matches, followed by Shahzaib Khan, who scored three centuries in 24 matches. Sameer Minhas has now matched this milestone in a mere seven matches, achieving the feat in less than a quarter of the games taken by his predecessors, showcasing his immense talent.
Beyond just scoring runs, Minhas has demonstrated great composure under pressure. During the 2025 Under-19 Asia Cup, he amassed 471 runs in five innings, maintaining an incredible average of over 150. His standout performances include an unbeaten 177 runs in the group stage and a magnificent 172 runs off 113 balls against India in the final—the highest individual score ever recorded in a U-19 Asia Cup final.
Sameer Minhas notched his third Youth ODI century during the U-19 Tri-Series against Zimbabwe. After a solid start with Ali Hassan Baloch, Minhas formed a dominant 199-run partnership with Usman Khan. He played a blistering knock of 142 runs off just 106 deliveries, an innings decorated with 17 boundaries and 4 sixes.
