ICC delegation concludes Bangladesh visit; BCB remains firm on refusal to travel to India
By Nawaz Gohar ; A high-level meeting between the International Cricket Council (ICC) delegation, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), and the Ministry of Youth and Sports has concluded following a 90-minute session focused on T20 World Cup venue arrangements.
According to media reports, the BCB maintained its rigid stance during the discussions, reiterating its decision not to travel to India for the World Cup due to persistent security concerns. In response to the deadlock, the ICC has assured all stakeholders that a final decision regarding the tournament venues will be announced soon.
The visit saw a two-member ICC team arrive in Dhaka: Andrew Ephgrave (Head of Anti-Corruption and Security) and Gaurav Saxena (ICC General Manager of Events and Corporate Communications). While Bangladesh initially faced scrutiny for only issuing a visa to Ephgrave, Gaurav Saxena, an Indian national, eventually joined the delegation after a delayed visa process.
The primary objective of this mission was to negotiate potential venue shifts and evaluate the feasibility of Bangladesh’s participation. With the BCB refusing to budge on the security issue, the cricketing world now awaits the ICC’s definitive verdict on how the World Cup schedule will be managed.
