Despite the biting winter chill, thousands of residents and international visitors gathered to participate in one of the city’s most anticipated annual sporting events.
The event achieved international recognition this year, with athletes from over 30 countries joining local runners on the track. According to the organizers, the marathon saw a massive turnout of over 5,000 participants across various categories. These included the full marathon, a 5-kilometer race for enthusiasts, and a dedicated “Fun Run” for children.
The diverse crowd—comprising men, women, and children from all walks of life—underscored a significant shift toward outdoor sports and physical fitness within Pakistani society.
The race commenced at the scenic F-9 Park, with the route looping through the capital’s wide avenues before concluding back at the same venue. The atmosphere was electric, with families cheering on participants from the sidelines.
Speaking at the event, the organizers emphasized that the marathon’s primary objective is to advocate for a healthy lifestyle.
“Our goal is to inspire people of all ages to embrace physical activity. Events like these not only promote fitness but also project a soft, positive, and active image of Islamabad to the world,” a spokesperson for the organizing committee stated.
The 2026 edition has been hailed as a milestone in the city’s sporting history, marked by improved logistical arrangements and a higher volume of international participation compared to previous years. The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, celebrating the resilience of the runners who braved the cold to cross the finish line.
