By Nawaz Gohar ; The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has officially postponed the highly anticipated PFF U-17 Championship 2026 just hours before its scheduled kickoff, citing security concerns and fluid conditions across the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The flagship youth tournament was originally slated to run from September 23 to October 4, 2026, bringing together top talent from across the country.
In a formal statement, governing officials emphasized that player safety remains paramount:”The decision was made in light of prevailing uncertainty in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The safety, security, and well-being of young athletes, technical officials, and visiting stakeholders remain our non-negotiable priority.”
The tournament stands as a crucial pillar in the PFF’s broader initiative to rebuild Pakistan’s domestic football ecosystem. Designed as a talent identification platform, the event unites regional football associations to create structured pathways for promising young players aiming for national team selection.
A total of 11 provincial and regional squads were set to compete for national honors. The sudden pause delays match plans for hundreds of young players currently arriving in the federal capital. PFF authorities confirmed that team management, logistics staff, and host officials are working to coordinate player accommodations and travel logistics while monitoring local developments.
The federation assured participating units that revised dates and an updated match schedule for the tournament will be announced in due course once stability returns to the twin cities.
