Pakistan Hockey League Official Launch Set for 14 October in Islamabad
Islamabad: Preparations have been completed for the official launch of the Pakistan Hockey League (PHL), aimed at promoting hockey in Pakistan and aligning the national game with modern requirements.
The league will be officially launched on 14 October 2026 in Islamabad.According to the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF), the first season of the Pakistan Hockey League is expected to begin in 2027, with 6 to 8 franchise teams likely to participate initially.
The PHF had awarded the rights to organize the league to Mediacast earlier this year following a competitive bidding process. The league’s format is being developed keeping in view world-class professional hockey leagues.
The Pakistan Hockey League is expected to feature renowned international players alongside local players, which will provide Pakistani hockey players with an opportunity to play with world-class players and learn from their experiences.According to the PHF, the involvement of the private sector, franchise owners and corporate entities in the league will create new commercial and marketing opportunities for hockey.
Along with this, activities in various sectors including broadcasting, digital media, ticketing, merchandising, sponsorship and hospitality will also be promoted.
Through the league, it is also planned to provide coaches, trainers and other professionals associated with Pakistani hockey an opportunity to work with international experts, so that technical skills related to modern hockey in the country can be further improved.
