Pakistan Veterans Hockey Club thrash Hyderabad Veterans 7–1 in exhibition Hockey match
Hyderabad: The exhibition match between Pakistan Veterans Hockey Club and Hyderabad Veterans Hockey Club was played at the Hyderabad Public School Astro Turf, where Pakistan Veterans produced a dominant performance to secure a convincing 7–1 victory.
For the winning side, Syed Sameer Hussain scored in the 10th, 15th, and 30th minutes. Former international Asif Ahmed Khan scored in the 5th and 35th minutes, while captain Qamar Ibrahim and Sameer Saleem found the net in the 7th and 34th minutes, respectively. Hyderabad Veterans’ lone goal was scored by Muhammad Zaigham.
Pakistan Veterans Hockey Club was represented by Olympian Qamar Ibrahim, Olympian Syed Sameer Hussain, Former international Asif Ahmed Khan, Sumair Saleem, goal keeper Waqas Hasan, Shahzad Hanif, Zahid Ghaffar, Naeem Haider, former international Asim Khan, Talha Ghouri, Wasif Raza, Syed Aaly Hasan,
former international Arif Bhopali, Irfan Ali, former international Muhammad Aasim, Junaid Aslam , Uzair Ahmed, Moeen Alam, and Nadeem Saeed. For media coverage, Saleh Umar specially travelled from Karachi and also accompanied the team.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, team captain Qamar Ibrahim praised the Hyderabad Hockey Association for its efforts in promoting hockey in the city. He said the installation of an astro turf at the Public School was a valuable gift for hockey lovers. He thanked Secretary Akhtar Khanzada and Tahir Habib for inviting the team to Hyderabad and providing the opportunity to play, and congratulated the entire organizing team.
He added that the Pakistan Hockey Federation is working to promote hockey across the country and expressed confidence that the sport will soon regain its lost glory. Sameer Hussain, Akhtar Khanzada, and Tahir Habib also addressed the ceremony.
At the end, the organizers presented players with traditional Sindhi topis and ajraks, along with commemorative shields. The patron of Pakistan Veterans Hockey Club, Olympian Islahuddin Siddiqui, congratulated the team on the victory and said that the win was a wonderful birthday gift for him
