Salman Agha will not remain T20 captain after World Cup, predicts M Amir
By Nawaz Gohar ; Following Pakistan’s defeat against England, former cricketer Mohammad Amir has predicted that Salman Ali Agha’s stint as captain is nearing its end.
During a sports program, while responding to a host’s query, Amir stated, “In my opinion, Salman Ali Agha will not remain the T20 captain after this World Cup.” He further remarked on the current state of the team, adding, “In my view, no one else truly deserves the role right now either; given the circumstances, I don’t see a suitable alternative at the moment.”
The former fast bowler also noted that this T20 World Cup will likely be the final appearance for many players in the squad.
Joining the discussion, former wicketkeeper Rashid Latif raised questions about Babar Azam’s role in the shortest format. “Babar Azam is no longer a player for the smaller formats,” Latif remarked.
He questioned the logic behind Babar’s return, asking, “Why was he brought back six months after being dropped for a low strike rate? The management had stated he would only return if his strike rate improved. Where is that improvement, and why was he recalled?”
Latif added that a batter who plays 20 to 25 balls only to score an equal number of runs puts immense pressure on the incoming batsmen, forcing them to play high-risk strokes.
