PESHAWAR: National football team captain and national hero Mohammad Arshad has hailed Sadaf Afridi, the emerging squash sensation and National Under-15 Plate Event Champion, as an exceptional talent.
He remarked that Sadaf embodies all the qualities required of an international-level athlete. Commending her hard work, dedication, and unwavering passion for the game, he expressed confidence that she has the potential to win the World Champion title in the future, if destiny permits.
He made these remarks during his visit to Qayyum Stadium in Peshawar, where he met Sadaf Afridi. The meeting was attended by her father, Abid Ali Afridi, who is the administrator of Hayatabad Sports Complex and a former accomplished athletics player. Mohammad Arshad also toured the squash courts and observed Sadaf Afridi’s gameplay closely.
Commenting on her performance, Arshad said that her skills and gameplay reflect her potential to shine on the global stage and make Pakistan proud. He emphasized the need for governmental and public support to nurture talents like Sadaf, enabling them to achieve greater milestones in their careers.
Arshad added, “Squash was once Pakistan’s pride, with legends like Jahangir Khan, Qamar Zaman, and Jansher Khan elevating the sport to global heights. It is now time to guide young players and revive the glory of this game.” He highlighted Sadaf Afridi’s achievements as an inspiration for young girls and expressed hope that her success would encourage more female players to take up squash, leading to the discovery of new talent in the sport.
Speaking on the occasion, Sadaf Afridi expressed her gratitude for the encouragement and guidance of senior athletes like Mohammad Arshad.
