Pakistan Weightlifting Federation commences Asian Games registration

By Nawaz Gohar: The Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWF) has officially initiated the accreditation and entry process for the upcoming 20th Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, 2026.

In an official communique sent to all affiliated units, PWF General Secretary Sidra Gul has directed male weightlifters interested in competing at the Games to submit their credentials. Athletes are required to provide their personal details and photographs to Madam Nuzhat Jabeen no later than February 2, 2026.

The federation has ensured high-level coordination for this premier event. Haji Khalid Mahmood, Secretary General of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), and Jibran Bin Salman, President of the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation, have been formally briefed on the process. This administrative alignment, implemented in collaboration with the POA, marks the start of Pakistan’s strategic preparations to ensure a strong presence at the continental games.

The 20th Asian Games will be a massive undertaking, featuring athletes from 45 countries and regions. This quadrennial multi-sport event is recognized as the second-largest of its kind after the Olympics.

For the 2026 edition, the Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium in Nagoya City will serve as the primary venue. Reflecting a spirit of regional cooperation, the official slogan for the games is “Imagine One Asia,” highlighting the themes of unity, progress, and shared growth across the continent.
