Lahore Qalandars sign Sri Lankan rising star Dunith Wellalage for HBL PSL 11
By Nawaz Gohar ; Lahore Qalandars have officially announced the inclusion of Sri Lankan standout Dunith Wellalage for the 11th edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL).
The 23-year-old left-arm orthodox spinner joins the squad as a replacement for West Indian international Gudakesh Motie, who has withdrawn from the tournament due to personal and international commitments.
Wellalage arrives in Lahore with a reputation as one of the most exciting young talents in Asian cricket. He joins a familiar face in the Qalandars’ dugout, linking up with Sri Lankan T20I captain Dasun Shanaka, who was secured by the franchise in the league’s historic first-ever auction.
The young spinner is coming off an impressive T20 World Cup campaign, where he proved his mettle by claiming eight wickets while maintaining a disciplined economy rate of 7.22. Beyond his prowess with the ball, Wellalage brings a crucial “X-factor” as a reliable lower-order batter. His ability to anchor the tail and clear the ropes in the death overs adds significant depth to the Qalandars’ lineup.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dunith to the Qalandars family,” a franchise spokesperson stated. “His recent international form and his ability to contribute in multiple facets of the game make him an ideal fit for our championship ambitions. We look forward to seeing him excel in front of our passionate home crowd.”
The inclusion of Wellalage ensures that the Qalandars maintain their tradition of fielding a potent spin attack as they prepare to challenge for the PSL 11 title.
