Masood faces ouster as Test Captain after Bangladesh whitewash, Salman Agha emerges as frontrunner
By Nawaz Gohar ; Following a humiliating home series whitewash against Bangladesh, Shan Masood’s tenure as Pakistan’s Test captain is under imminent threat, with the cricket board reportedly moving to overhaul the team’s red-ball leadership.
According to reliable media sources, the top hierarchy has decided to replace the national Test captain following back-to-back series defeats against Bangladesh.
Insiders reveal that Salman Ali Agha, the current T20I captain, has emerged as the strongest candidate to take over the reins of the Test side. If finalized, Agha is expected to officially assume leadership of the red-ball squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies, scheduled to commence in July.
Sources further disclose that the aftermath of the definitive defeat to Bangladesh has created a tense atmosphere within the camp. A stark lack of communication and visible coldness was observed between captain Shan Masood and several squad members during the team’s return journey home, indicating growing friction within the dressing room.
The decision to seek a leadership transition comes on the heels of a highly disappointing run for the national side. Under Masood’s captaincy, Pakistan has contested 16 Test matches, securing victory in only 4 games while suffering heavy defeats in 12 encounters—a track record that has forced the selectors to seek an urgent change in direction.
