Mian Munir Group sweeps MRCA polls, outlines vision for grassroots cricket
By Nawaz Gohar ; The Mian Munir Group secured a decisive victory in the Multan Region Cricket Association (MRCA) elections, with Dr. Muhammad Saleem Tonsvi elected as President and Muhammad Nasir securing the slot of General Secretary.
Out of 21 eligible voters representing the seven districts of the Multan region, 20 cast their ballots. In a closely watched presidential race, the Mian Munir Group’s candidate, Dr. Muhammad Saleem Tonsvi, clinched the seat by securing 11 votes.
Following the official announcement of the results, jubilant workers and supporters gathered at Muslim College Beli Wala to celebrate the victory. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm as supporters distributed sweets and danced to traditional bhangra beats.
In his victory speech, newly elected President Dr. Muhammad Saleem Tonsvi dedicated the win to the cricket enthusiasts, players, and stakeholders of the entire Multan region. He emphasized that his foremost priority would be equipping young cricketers with modern infrastructure.
“We will provide state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor practice facilities to ensure that talented players from every village and town have the opportunity to emerge,” Dr. Tonsvi stated.
He further announced plans to establish formal cricket academies at the school and college levels, ensuring access to quality coaching and modern training equipment.
Additionally, a structured annual calendar for district-level tournaments will be introduced to provide equal opportunities for all players. Dr. Tonsvi also reaffirmed the association’s commitment to collaborating closely with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to groom regional talent for the national team.
Speaking on the occasion, Group Leader Mian Munir lauded Dr. Tonsvi as a capable, honest, and visionary leader, expressing full confidence that Multan cricket would enter a transformative era under his guidance. He assured stakeholders that all electoral promises would be fulfilled.
Mian Munir disclosed that the first phase of their development plan will focus on renovating cricket grounds and laying new pitches across all seven districts of the Multan region.
Furthermore, pre-selection camps for Under-16 and Under-19 categories will be organized, with trials conducted under a strictly transparent process. To ensure financial sustainability, the association plans to engage local sponsors and the business community.
“Together with the newly elected president, we will transform the Multan region into a true hub of Pakistan cricket. This is not just a dream, but a practical roadmap that will be set into motion immediately,” Mian Munir added.
The new leadership jointly announced that the first official meeting will be convened next week. The session will bring together district coaches, referees, and former cricketers to draft a comprehensive action plan. Key priorities on the immediate agenda include the promotion of women’s cricket, the launch of an inter-district league, and the introduction of floodlit winter tournaments.
Concluding their addresses, the newly elected officials vowed to honor the trust reposed in them by the voters through hard work, integrity, and dedication. “By the grace of Almighty, Multan cricket will only move forward from here,” they resolved.
