Babar Azam matches Virat Kohli’s T20I fifty record with stylish 74-Run Knock
By Nawaz Gohar ; Pakistan’s star batter and former captain Babar Azam has equalled Virat Kohli’s long-standing record for the most half-centuries in T20 International cricket, marking another major milestone in his prolific career.
Babar achieved the feat by scoring a fluent 74 runs off 52 balls, featuring seven fours and two sixes, during Pakistan’s latest T20I fixture. This was the 38th fifty of his T20I career, bringing him level with India’s former captain Virat Kohli, who previously held the record alone with 38 T20I half-centuries.
The Pakistani ace has reached his 38 fifties in 134 matches and 127 innings, during which he has accumulated an impressive 4,392 runs, the highest aggregate by any Pakistani in T20Is.
Babar also holds the distinction of playing the most innings of 50-plus runs in T20 International cricket. His tally includes three centuries, placing him ahead of several contemporary greats.
In comparison, Virat Kohli has scored his 38 fifties in 125 matches and 117 innings, along with a single T20I century. India’s Rohit Sharma follows in third place with 32 half-centuries, while Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan occupies fourth with 30.
Babar Azam also holds another notable record in the shortest format: he has struck the most fours in T20I history, with a remarkable 464 boundaries, further solidifying his position as one of the format’s most consistent and elegant run-makers.
With records continuing to fall, Babar’s achievements reaffirm his status as one of modern cricket’s elite performers in the T20 arena.
