Crowded coaching staff and intense drills: National team trains in Pindi ahead of Sri Lanka series

By Nawaz Gohar ; Ahead of the official start of the T20I series against Sri Lanka, the Pakistan national cricket team underwent an intense training session at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, with players sweating it out on the field.

A striking feature of the session was the presence of a sizable support staff surrounding the players from all sides as they stepped onto the turf with their cricket kits, showering them with instructions and technical tips in quick succession. For cricket enthusiasts, the scene was both intriguing and telling: while the head coach,

bowling coach, batting coach, and fielding coach were all actively engaged, past records raise questions about accountability—historically, when the team suffers defeat, the blame falls squarely on the players while the heavily compensated coaching staff escapes criticism.

Training Plan for a Comeback: Prior to the start of the net session, head coach Mike Hesson assembled the squad to detail a specially designed training strategy tailored for a successful series performance.

Bowlers Trained in Wicket-Taking Tactics: Bowling coach Shaun Tait remained particularly active during the session, equipping fast bowlers with specialized skills aimed at taking wickets and stemming the run flow in crucial overs.

Focus on Batting and Fielding: Batting coach Mike Smith and fielding coach Mansoor Amjad conducted prolonged drills with the players, focusing on refining batting mechanics and rectifying lapses in fielding.

Series Schedule: The first encounter of this high-stakes T20I series between Pakistan and Sri Lanka is scheduled to take place on October 9 at the historic Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
