ICC activates emergency travel contingency plans amid middle east tensions

DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has activated emergency contingency plans in response to increasing tensions in the Middle East to ensure the safety of all stakeholders involved in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026.

In an official statement, the ICC clarified that the tournament remains on schedule in India and Sri Lanka, and the match proceedings are not being directly impacted. However, special measures are being implemented to guarantee the secure return of players, officials, and broadcast teams once their assignments conclude.

The governing body noted that they are preparing alternative travel routes for those who typically use Gulf transit hubs, including Dubai Airport. The ICC’s Travel and Logistics team is currently in active coordination with various international airlines to secure these paths.

According to the ICC, alternative flight options through Europe, South Asia, and Southeast Asia are being explored. The council’s security consultants remain in constant communication with relevant global authorities to monitor the situation in real-time.

The ICC added that real-time travel advisories will be issued as the situation evolves. Cricket fans have also been urged to follow official travel guidelines and assess the international situation thoroughly before undertaking any travel. The Council reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a peaceful and secure conclusion to the T20 World Cup 2026.
